Also, I wanted to talk a little about October's birthstones. Yes, there are two, and they are some of my favorites! October's birthstones are opal and tourmaline. Most birthstone jewelry using tourmaline uses the color pink, but tourmaline comes in every color! Green and pink are the most common, but there are a lot of stones out there in blue, teal, purple, and black.
Opals are traditionally white, but they can come in multiple colors as well. My personal favorite is boulder (or matrix) opal. These are stones that have plain stone (matrix) with cracks filled with fiery opal material. The opalescent material would be far too small to make jewelry out of if they were removed from the rock (faceting or cabbing removes over 50% of the original rock) so they are left as is and they look like little sparkly rivers running through another color of stone.
I will close with some pictures of things I have in the store, but know that I also have a small parcel of boulder opals on order and I will be making some lovely pieces in case you need to get a birthday present for a loved one!
